Tomatlán (meaning “Tomato land” or “place of tomato” from Nahuatl) is a town and municipality, in Jalisco south of Cabo Corrientes in central-western Mexico. The municipality covers an area of 153 km².
As of 2015, the municipality had a total population of 35,824 people.The final portion of Yann Martel’s novel Life of Pi is set in Tomatlán, where the character Pi Patel reaches land after being stranded in the Pacific Ocean.
